Week 7

This week is my spring break week, and my group and I already had our filming days. None of us have adobe premiere pro at home, so there was no way for us to edit. This week I decided to start planning for my creative critical reflection. I am doing 4 different creative critical reflections. I am doing a podcast, a movie poster with a voiceover, a power point with a voiceover, and a fake YouTube video with different interviews with me, but I'm dressed up as different characters. I will first write scripts this week and then start to film and edit next week.

CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION ONE:

Question: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Movie Poster:

      SCRIPT:

My product is a horror movie called “Caged.” This is a movie poster created for “Caged. The movie is about 4 girls who break-in to Big Cat Habitat and get caught by the zookeeper/ the owner. While they are trying to out-run him, they run into an open animal cage. As they are in there, they hear a growling noise coming from a big cat.

The social issue that this movie addresses is illegally breaking into a place after hours with awful intentions. I chose this issue because today break-ins are getting more and more common, leading to more people being negatively impacted by them.

As you can see, from the movie poster. The characters are dressed in all black to create a very ominous mood and keep the viewers guessing what their intentions might be. Typically, during a horror movie the audience is left with many questions throughout. It is what keeps them on their toes and to continue watching to the end. Especially when it comes to the opening, the more questions left for the audience, the more likely they will continue to watch to the very end. Our location was at Big Cat Habitat in Sarasota, Florida. The setting took place mainly outside and that gave an open feeling to the audience. If you look closely in the background, you can see a tiger standing in the background. The tiger looks like he is observing and hunting the girls. Was it a tiger that attacked the girls?? Or was it another big cat like a Florida Panther?? Watch the movie to find out!

When it came to makeup, we kept it to a very minimum. The natural, minimalistic look gave the characters a more real feeling, like they were actual humans like the viewer watching. If you look closely, the only person looking at the camera is Meadow. At the end of the opening scene, after the girls realize they are locked in the cage with some type of big cat it cuts to a black screen. Then it cuts to Meadow crawling... and the viewers only see her. What is up with that? If you’re wondering about her significance, then you should watch Caged!

The color red is typically associated with the horror genre. It revokes a sense of fear and danger in any audience viewing it, as well as associated with crimes and blood. As you can see on the movie poster the paw print, the animal scratch, the credits, and the wording on the side are in red. This was intentional because when the viewer comes across the poster, as they are looking at it, they would get fearful and that would lead to a sense of curiosity. Then that will lead them to watching the movie and their views help it become successful.

When coming up with ideas for our movie my biggest inspiration is looking at multiple horror movie posters, beginnings of different horror movies, and the idea that horror movies need to add mystery to the audience, especially the opening. The dark coloring on the movie poster really portrays to the viewers that the characters on the front don’t have good intentions, and all people know that all actions have consequences. This will lead the viewer to watch the movie to see what consequences the people breaking into private property will get. When people commit crimes, they typically wear darker clothing to try and be less noticeable to the eye. It makes them look more mysterious and even helps them feel more devious. The social issue addressed in the movie of people illegally breaking into a place can be seen through the dark shading on the poster itself or the black clothing that the characters wear in the film.

Sound effects also help to get across the deceitful crime the characters are committing and help showcase the location. Animal noises such as a lion's roar can be heard in the background or the sudden music that evokes an anxious feeling throughout can help portray the horror element to the audience as they watch.

Our Movie Opening

Day Two of Filming week 5

Our second production day was on Monday February 26, 2024. Peyton, Meadow, Ella, Sydney, Ella's dad (Clayton), and I arrived back at Big Cat Habitat to finish our filming. We all arrived at 4:30. The equipment we ended up using again was just the steady camera holder. We decided to arrive around the same time to make sure the lighting would look close to the same as the first production day. The first scene we started with was with Ella's dad jumping out and confronting us. Since that shot was filmed as a Point of View shot in my character's point of view, I stood behind a fence that was off-screen and signaled to Ella's dad when he should pop out. I would look at where the girls were stepping and when they were close to a line on the pavement in front of the gift shop I would signal a thumbs-up to Ella's dad to jump out. Then we filmed the chasing scene at different angles for the next 30 minutes. After we went to shoot the scenes of us locking ourselves into...

Week 2

Now I am onto week two of our final project! This week I have started our story boards, and I am beginning to write our script. In order to start our storyboard my group and I all decided the script needed to be finished first. Before I could start to write the script, my group and I had to figure out the characters and how they were going to act. In the end my group and I decided on making me the nervous character, Sydney was going to be the aggressive character telling me to suck it up, and the other two weren't going to be scared or confident, more on the neutral side. We also decided we were going to film on 2/19/24 and 2/22/24. This way we have two days to make sure we can get the shots we want. Our costumes are still the same as of right now. The plan is still black ski mask, black pants, black long sleeves, black long pants, and black/neutral-colored shoes. Meadow and I are both planning on the characters showing the least amount of skin possible. This way it...
